St Michael’s CE Primary Academy – The Ark SEND Provision Window & Door Graphics, Wolverhampton

The Brief

St Michael’s Church of England Primary Academy in Wolverhampton approached us to support The Ark, their specialist SEND provision for pupils aged 4–11 with additional social, emotional and mental health needs, part of the Three Spires Trust.

The team wanted to create a calm, low-distraction environment that still felt warm, engaging and aligned with The Ark’s theme. They were looking for visual solutions that would help pupils feel safe and settled, while also allowing staff to monitor learning spaces discreetly and effectively.

The Process

Working closely with the school, we developed a set of bespoke designs that promote focus, comfort and gentle visual stimulation—carefully tailored for a SEND setting.

Key design elements included:

• Natural Window Scenes – calming, nature-inspired graphics installed in classrooms and intervention rooms to soften the space. These scenes gently reduce external distractions while still allowing natural light to flow through. To maintain the Ark identity, we incorporated matching animal pairs subtly within the artwork.

• Observation-Friendly Door Graphics – custom door designs featuring a clear-view cutout, enabling staff to discreetly observe learning without interrupting pupils or breaking their concentration.

• Consistent Thematic Styling – all graphics were created to complement The Ark’s environment, reinforcing a sense of safety and continuity throughout the provision.

Each element was produced using durable, high-quality materials suitable for busy primary and SEND environments, ensuring longevity and a smooth, professional finish.

The End Result

The completed installation has transformed The Ark into a calm, supportive and thoughtfully designed space that meets the needs of its pupils.

The natural window scenes help regulate sensory input and strengthen focus, while the themed details add a gentle layer of familiarity and comfort. The new door graphics allow staff to monitor learning effectively, without disrupting the flow of the room.

Overall, the project has created a nurturing environment that supports emotional wellbeing, encourages engagement and enhances the day-to-day experience for both pupils and staff.
