The brief: To create a welcoming and informative environment to the primary school’s entrance area that explores the story of the school’s saint.

The process: Two Thirds Design were invited to St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School to brainstorm ideas for their reception interior. The area contained a lovely large carving of Saint Cuthbert, chairs for visitors; a brick wall and two long angled plastered walls.

We completed extensive research about Saint Cuthbert and sourced relevant photography. We also photographed the school’s location and their pupils to create a very large montage backdrop for the carved statue. The saint’s story, the school prayer and values, as well as the eight pairs of virtues from Jesuit Pupil Profile were weaved into the inspirational image. A map of the UK and colour coded icons were also used to represent the schoolhouses and give the pupils ownership of the display.

The end result: The school badge and motto was printed on vinyl, profile cut and installed to the reverse of an acrylic panel that was fitted over the exposed brick wall using standoff chrome fittings, an elegant and classy solution. We printed the montage on hardwearing vinyl wall covering and installed it around the two angled walls (just like wallpaper). The reception area is now an inspirational environment and the extensive content in this backdrop will make interesting reading to any visitor to the school.
