Raising the Barr

Barr Beacon Raising the Barr

The restoration of Barr Beacon’s historic features and community pride.

We’ve been a bit quiet on our blog posts of late, the main reason being that at the Two Thirds office we’ve been heads down helping out Jeff McBride, Countryside Project Development Officer from Walsall Council with an exciting new Heritage Lottery Funding application. This could mean exciting changes to Barr Beacon over the coming couple of years, involving the public with all sorts of exciting events using new technologies. We’ve provided Jeff with research into development of multi-platform educational resources, public consultation and information gathering solutions along with a white paper on the suitability a mobile interactive application.

So watch this space for progress updates…

Journey to a Brighter Future

Barr Beacon Panoramic

This on-going project is finally near completion! Started in 2005, it's been an epic journey of acquiring funding, full 360 degrees photography, meticulous map illustration and lots of community feedback and tweaking. Watch this space, it's due to be up very soon, closely followed by a detailed leaflet of the history and map of the site. Take a visit to Barr Beacon this summer...panoramic_blog_1

And this is the old war memorial, the plinth in the centre is where you'll find our panoramic disc.

Kitty Interactive - 1 year on

Well our Kitty Interactive is now over one year old and still going strong in the Discovery Gallery! It's good to see it here in context with the Andrew Tift triptych and the wooded photo blocks.

A Fishy Interactive - new game for Walsall New Art Gallery

Our second installation built for the re-brand of the Discovery Gallery to be launched at the end of this month, based on the ground floor of Walsall New Art Gallery. Designed for three year-olds and up, the brief was to invent a simple game, using the artwork showcased in the gallery with graphical elements to depict water, reflection and hidden creatures under the sea.fish_blog_4

Built and animated in flash, this permanent feature will be on display beside a good old fashioned fuzzy felt game and a magnetic fishing game... it's nice to see that some things don't change.fish_blog_2fish_blog_1

Kitty Interactive Progress

So here is a quick preview of how the kitty interactive is coming along.

Apologies for the shaky cam, I'll try something different for the next video.

Towpath of time, Screencast

Well a few days ago I posted about a project we had been commissioned to make an interactive CDROM and I mentioned that its wasn't so much as just commissioned, as well into production. So I decided I would follow up that post with a screen cast of how its looking so far and some of the functionality.

Some of the features we have developed especially for this disc are the photo gallery, light box and interactive map. Also worth noting this is our first flurry with a totally flash disc in a Director shell. We have previously use flash elements and components in Director but this disc takes that to a whole new level and as you can see, really looks good for it.Hope you enjoy the preview!
